Working with many different types of wool?
The 72 TPI carding cloth is generally the most versatile choice. It performs well with a wide variety of wools and is ideal for both simple batts and custom fibre blends.
Mostly spinning Merino, alpaca or other fine fibres?
Choose the 120 TPI carding cloth. Its higher tooth density handles fine fibres more gently and produces smoother preparations.
Working primarily with rustic or bulky wools?
The 46 TPI version provides more space between the teeth, making it better suited to coarser fibres.
Whatever density you choose, always feed the fibres onto the carder in thin, even layers. Several light passes usually produce better results than a single heavy pass.

Built to Last
The carding cloth is made from nickel-plated steel wire mounted on a natural rubber and cotton foundation. This construction provides both flexibility and long-lasting durability.
The frame is built from moisture-resistant laminated birch plywood and finished with a durable white HPL laminate surface that stands up well to everyday use.
The drums are driven by gears enclosed in a protective housing. This design helps prevent fibres from accumulating in the mechanism while reducing maintenance requirements.
Understanding the Drive Ratios
The mechanical drive ratio between the two drums is 4:1. However, because the drums are different diameters, Louët specifies a 9:1 surface speed ratio.
The surface speed ratio more accurately describes the actual speed difference between the licker-in drum and the main drum during carding, allowing the fibres to be opened, blended and transferred smoothly.

Tips for Best Results
Secure the drum carder firmly to a sturdy table using the two supplied table clamps. Feed the fibres onto the licker-in drum in thin, even layers without pulling or forcing them.
Before carding a fleece, make sure it has been washed, is completely dry and has been opened sufficiently. Compact locks and heavily matted fibres should be separated before feeding them into the carder.
To achieve more uniform colour or fibre blends, remove the first batt, divide it into several strips and feed them through the carder a second time.
Care & Maintenance
After each use, remove any remaining fibres from the drums using the supplied doffer brush. Avoid pulling fibres forcefully from the carding cloth.
The enclosed gear housing protects the drive mechanism and helps prevent fibre build-up. Under normal use, very little maintenance is required.
The wire teeth are fine and extremely sharp. Handle the drum carder, doffer pin and cleaning brush with care, and keep the machine out of the reach of children.
