Small, lightweight and simple to use, the Mirrix Saffron Pocket Loom brings one of the essential features of a good tapestry loom to a pocket-sized format: adjustable warp tension.
With a maximum weaving width of 5" (12.7 cm) and a weaving length of 8" (20.3 cm), it is ideal for small tapestries, samples and experimentation. Its height is adjustable, and warp tension can be adjusted after warping and throughout the weaving process.
Weighing less than one pound, the Saffron is easy to carry and makes an excellent small loom for learning tapestry weaving, testing a technique or material before beginning a larger piece, or simply weaving wherever you go.

Why choose the Saffron Pocket Loom?
The Saffron was designed to provide a true adjustable tensioning system in an extremely compact loom. This is what sets it apart from many small weaving frames.
Once the loom is warped, you can adjust the warp tension and continue to make adjustments as needed throughout the weaving process. This is particularly useful in tapestry weaving, where consistent tension plays an important role in the quality of the finished piece.
Its lightweight format also makes it an excellent travel or workshop loom. It is small enough to carry easily while still providing up to 5" of weaving width.

The Saffron is particularly well suited if you are looking for a simple, compact tapestry loom for weaving at 8 EPI. If you want to change your warp sett easily, the Chloe offers greater flexibility with its interchangeable combs.
Which version should you choose?
The Saffron Pocket Loom is available in one configuration only. Its 8 EPI combs are fixed and are not interchangeable.
It does not have a shedding device. Mirrix did, however, design a special shedding comb for the Saffron, sold separately, to help create a shed while weaving.

Want to experiment with sett?
The Saffron's comb is fixed at 8 EPI. You can, however, change the spacing of the warp through the way the loom is warped. If being able to change sett regularly is important to you, a Chloe with interchangeable combs will offer greater versatility.
Want to weave a longer piece?
The standard Saffron provides approximately 8" of weaving length. A longer threaded rod designed for the Saffron can increase the available weaving length to approximately 12".
Prefer to weave upright?
The Saffron can be used horizontally on your lap or on a table. A compatible stand, sold separately, can also be used to hold it vertically.

Care and use
Before weaving, adjust the height of the loom to suit your project and make sure the nuts are properly tightened. Warp tension can then be adjusted after warping and throughout the weaving process.
The metal combs may have sharp surfaces or points and should be handled with care.
Avoid unnecessarily taking the loom apart once it has been properly adjusted. As with its other looms, Mirrix notes that disassembly can make some components more difficult to align correctly when reassembled.

Is the Saffron suitable for beginners in tapestry weaving?

Can I change the warp sett?
The Saffron's combs are fixed at 8 EPI and cannot be replaced with combs of another sett. However, the warp spacing can be adapted during warping for certain projects.
Does the Saffron have a shedding device?
No. However, a shedding comb designed specifically for the Saffron is available separately.
Can I weave with beads?
Yes, although the Saffron was designed primarily for tapestry weaving and its fixed comb limits some possibilities. Mirrix has tested it with both 11/0 Delica beads and 11/0 seed beads by adapting the warping method.
