Why choose an Ashford Inkle loom?
An Inkle loom is designed for creating warp-faced weaving: the warp threads are sett closely enough to cover the weft, making the warp the main visual element of the design.
This technique makes it possible to create a wide variety of narrow bands by playing with colour, thread order and pick-up techniques. The loom is straightforward to warp, and its tensioning system allows the warp tension to be adjusted as you weave.
Ashford Inkle looms are also compact enough to store easily or take with you to a workshop, class or weaving gathering.

Not sure which one to choose? Choose the Inklette if a very compact, easily portable loom is your priority. The Inkle provides greater weaving width and warp length, making it the more versatile choice for exploring a wider range of projects.
Our advice
Plan your heddles before you begin.
Heddles are not included with the loom. Texsolv heddles make preparing your loom quick and convenient and are available separately from Tisse et File.
For your warp, choose strong, relatively smooth yarns. Cotton is particularly pleasant for beginners and makes it easy to see both the structure of the band and the pattern.

Care and use
Ashford recommends protecting the wood to help reduce the effects of climate changes and prevent staining and marking. A suitable wood finishing wax can be applied after assembly.
Before warping the loom, position the tension adjustment so that sufficient movement remains available to adjust the warp tension as you weave.
