Learn the basics of weaving on a rigid heddle loom and create your very first woven project – a beautiful scarf to take home.
This hands-on workshop is perfect for beginners who want to discover weaving in a friendly and supportive environment.


A complete and beginner-friendly learning experience

Led by Catherine Malichecq, you will explore the anatomy of the loom, learn about yarns and density, calculate the number of warp ends, warp the loom, weave your first project, and finish it.
As an extra bonus, this workshop includes access to the online course “First Steps”, allowing you to revisit all the techniques whenever you like.

  • Anatomy of the rigid heddle loom
  • Types of yarn and their characteristics
  • Understanding density and calculating the number of ends
  • Warping the loom
  • Weaving your first project : a scarf or cowl in Pima cotton
  • Finishing techniques

Workshop details

  • Time: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (if your project is not finished, you can return during the week or the following Saturday to complete it)
  • Location: Tisse et File, 571 boul. Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Mercier (Montréal area)
  • Level required: None – beginners welcome
  • Language: French (translation available upon request)

Your instructor: Catherine Malichecq

Passionate about art and textile techniques, Catherine Malichecq has explored dance, music, drawing, and various crafts, including miniatures, embroidery, felting, and weaving. Winner of several embroidery and weaving awards, she is currently pursuing the senior level of the Master Weaver program from the Guild of Canadian Weavers.
In 2019, she founded Tisse et File, followed by Cours Tisse et File in 2020, with the mission of sharing her expertise and passion for textiles.
