Why change the Sett Combs on your Chloe?
One of the most useful features of the Chloe is the ability to change the warp sett simply by replacing the combs installed in the upper and lower wooden beams.
A lower sett spaces the warp threads farther apart and generally works well with heavier weft yarns or certain larger beads. A higher sett places the warp threads closer together, allowing you to work with finer yarns or smaller beads.
This makes it possible to use the same Chloe for a wide variety of projects, from tapestry to bead weaving.

Please note: the ideal sett always depends on the diameter of your warp, weft or the actual dimensions of your beads. These recommendations are therefore a starting point rather than an absolute rule.
How to choose a Sett Comb for tapestry weaving
For tapestry weaving, sett depends primarily on the size of your warp and weft yarns.
A lower sett, such as 8 dents per inch, spaces the warp threads farther apart and generally accommodates a heavier weft. Higher-sett combs progressively place the warp threads closer together and are better suited to finer materials.
If you enjoy experimenting with different yarn sizes, interchangeable Sett Combs are one of the Chloe's greatest advantages: you can change your sett without changing looms.
How to choose a Sett Comb for bead weaving
To determine the appropriate sett, Mirrix recommends threading your beads onto a needle, measuring one inch of beads and counting how many beads fit within that inch. Subtracting one from the number of beads provides a useful indication of the sett to use.
Mirrix recommends the following as a guide:
- 8/0 cylinder beads: 8-dent comb;
- 10/0 cylinder beads: 12-dent comb;
- 11/0 cylinder beads: 18-dent comb for narrow pieces or 16-dent comb for wider pieces;
- 6/0 seed beads: 12-dent comb using every other dent;
- 8/0 seed beads: 10- or 12-dent comb depending on the warp thread;
- 11/0 seed beads: 14-dent comb.
Compatibility
Sett Combs are available for all three Chloe sizes:
- 5" Chloe — 5" combs;
- 8" Chloe — 8" combs;
- 10" Chloe — 10" combs.
First choose the width that matches your loom, then select the sett you need.
Important: these combs are designed for the Chloe and should not be installed on the Saffron Pocket Loom. Mirrix specifies that the Saffron's wooden beams were not designed for the repeated screwing and unscrewing required when changing Sett Combs.

The 8-dent comb is an excellent starting point for many small tapestry projects. Add other setts as you begin working with finer yarns or want to explore different warp densities.
Do you primarily use your Chloe for bead weaving?
Choose your Sett Comb according to the beads you actually use. The 14-, 16- and 18-dent combs are particularly useful for smaller 11/0 beads.
Do you own Chloe looms in more than one size?
Keep in mind that the combs are not interchangeable between loom widths. Always select the width that corresponds to your Chloe.

Installation and use
The Chloe Sett Combs are interchangeable. To change your sett, remove the upper and lower combs currently installed and replace them with the pair corresponding to your new sett.
Always install the same sett at the top and bottom of the loom to maintain consistent warp spacing.
Handle the combs with care, as the teeth and some surfaces may be sharp.
