Master the Basics of Frame Loom Weaving

This beginner-friendly course is designed to give you a solid foundation in frame loom weaving. Over three intensive days, you will explore the essential techniques, from warping the loom to finishing your woven piece.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the different parts of a frame loom and understand their function.
  • Correctly use weaving tools and accessories.
  • Understand basic weaving terminology.
  • Warp a frame loom indirectly.
  • Read a simple weaving draft.
  • Calculate the amount of yarn needed for warp and weft.
  • Weave, make joins, and finish your project.
  • Recognize and understand basic weave structures.
  • Use sampling effectively to test and refine your weaving ideas.

Hands-On Project

You will create your own weaving project from start to finish during the course.


Prerequisites

No prior weaving experience required.

  • All necessary weaving equipment provided on-site.
  • All yarns required for your project.

Please bring

  • Something to take notes with.
  • A calculator.
  • Comfortable indoor shoes or socks.
  • Your lunch if you prefer to eat on-site.

Your Instructor: Catherine Malichecq

A lifelong artist and artisan, Catherine Malichecq has explored many creative disciplines: dance, music, drawing, crafts, miniatures, embroidery, felting, and weaving.
She has taken numerous workshops, taught various textile techniques, and won multiple awards in both embroidery and weaving. Catherine is a member of weaving associations in Quebec, Canada, and abroad, and is currently completing the senior level of the Master Weaver program with the Guild of Canadian Weavers.
In 2019, she founded Tisse et File, followed in 2020 by Cours Tisse et File, with the goal of sharing her expertise and passion for textile arts.
