Shaft loom patterns (4/8 shafts) to build skills step by step: scarves, towels, runners, shawls. Each pattern lists the structure, recommended reed sett (dpi / dents per cm), usable width, and yarn suggestions.
How to choose your pattern
- Number of shafts: 4-shaft for fundamentals (plain weave, twill, herringbone), 8-shaft for advanced structures.
- Weaving width: make sure your loom’s usable width matches the project.
- Reed sett: follow the suggested dpi/dents-per-cm to achieve the intended hand and width.
- Yarns: pick sizes that suit the sett (cotton, wool, linen… depending on the hand you want).
I’m a beginner — where should I start?
Choose a beginner pattern in plain weave or simple twill (4 shafts) with easy yarns (cotton or wool). Reasonable weaving time, simple finishing.
Can I adjust a pattern to my reed sett?
Often yes. Slightly adjust the sett and/or yarn size. A quick sample will confirm width and hand.
Are patterns compatible across brands?
Generally yes. Just check your loom’s usable width, number of shafts, and available reed setts.
